I forget where I heard this but a very wise person once said that the US Constitution needs an amendment. The amendment should be kept simple so that it cannot be twisted by ideologues who oppose it so how about this.
Congress shall make no law applying to any subset of the American people. All laws must be applied to all of the people.
That would cut lobbyists for particular industries and pressure groups off at the knees and would stop any racial divisiveness by putting everybody on an equal footing with no political favors able to be granted and no group held to a lower standard than anybody else. It would also ensure that free markets would be constitutionally protected and reduce the number of laws on the books by probably about ninety percent.
Anybody claiming that this cannot be done is simply trying to obfuscate the truth that the people, groups or industries that they think need a special case are simply not capable of surviving on merit. It would also stop creeping sharia law as if it allowed one religion to influence the laws it would have to allow all of them in on the same basis.
Any presidential candidate or political party promising to do his best to get this implemented would get my vote.
